Morning Prayer

the invitatory

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.                                                                     Hebrews 4: 14, 16

VENITE

O Come

The mercy of the Lord is everlasting:

O come, let us adore him.

O come, let us sing unto the Lord; *

let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving *

and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God *

and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are all the depths of the earth, *

and the heights of the hills are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it, *

and his hands prepared the dry land.

O come, let us worship and fall down, *

and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is our God, *

and we are the people of his pasture,

and the sheep of his hand. Amen.

the lord’s prayer is said

O Lord, show your mercy upon us;

And grant us your salvation.

 O Lord, guide those who govern us;

 And lead us in the way of justice and truth.

 Clothe your ministers with righteousness;

  And let your people sing with joy.

  O Lord, save your people;

  And bless your inheritance.

  Give peace in our time, O Lord;

  And defend us by your mighty power.

  Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;

   Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

  Create in us clean hearts, O God;

  And take not your Holy Spirit from us.

Collect for the Selection of a Rector

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a Rector for the parish of All Souls that we may receive a faithful pastor who will preach the Gospel, care for your people, equip us for ministry, and lead us forth in fulfillment of the Great Commission; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

the general thanksgiving

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,

we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made.

We bless you for our creation, preservation,

and all the blessings of this life;

but above all for your immeasurable love

in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.

And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,

that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service,

and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days;

Through Jesus Christ our Lord,

to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,

be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

the conclusion

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Midday Prayer

the invitatory

Oh God, make speed to save us;

O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

the canticle

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people
and kindle in us the fire of your love.
All who are led by the Spirit of God
are children of God and fellow-heirs with Christ.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people.
Renew the face of your creation, Lord,
pouring on us the gifts of your Spirit,
and kindle in us the fire of your love.
For the creation waits with eager longing
for the glorious liberty of the children of God. AMEN

PSALM 121

Levavi oculos

1 I will lift up my eyes unto the hills;*

from whence comes my help?

2 My help comes from the Lord,*

who has made heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot be moved,*

and he who keeps you will not sleep.

4 Behold, he who keeps Israel*

shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord himself is your keeper;*

the Lord is your defense upon your right hand,

6 So that the sun shall not burn you by day,*

neither the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;*

indeed, it is he who shall keep your soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in,*

from this time forth for evermore.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; *

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

And a perfect end. Amen.

the confession

Blessed Almighty God and Father, we confess to you,

to one another, and to the whole company of heaven,

   that we have sinned, through our own fault,

   in thought, and word, and deed,

   and in what we have left undone.

For the sake of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,

   have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins,

   and by the power of your Holy Spirit

   raise us up to serve you in newness of life,

   to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Grant to your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
